Experiment in Sewing and in Crafting - KoL Con Costume

This has been an on-going experiment. I was keeping it pretty hush-hush because it's for a contest, but now that the contest is only a couple day away I suppose that it is safe to talk about it - and I'm super excited about it!

What contest is this, do you ask? Why, none other than the KoL Con 6 Costume Contest! I may also wear my gear to the LARP (which is actually what inspired the costume idea in the first place) but as of right now I know for sure that I'll be wearing it to the costume contest. My idea was to do an entire KoL costume from the game. This consists of a hat, a shirt, a two-handed weapon (or a one-handed weapon and an off hand, or 2 one-handed weapons), a pair of pants and three accessories.

For my costume I decided to do a little Radio KoL pimping see as how I'm a dj and all. I also wanted to do a little promo for our newest items that were rolled out only a short time ago (within the month of September). So here was the item list that I was going to attempt to make:
  1. Voluminous Radio Hat
  2. Duct Tape Shirt
  3. Radio Free Foil
  4. Voluminous Radio Pants
  5. Voluminous Radio Sneakers
  6. Radio KoL Maracas
  7. Radio KoL Bottle Opener
  8. As a Backup Accessory: Porquoise Necklace
  9. And, for a familiar: A Spooky Pirate Skeleton
One trip to JoAnn's (and much shelf searching) later, I was ready to begin!

Here are pictures of the things which I have thus-far completed.
The Porquoise Necklace and Radio KoL Maracas (which I have made earrings for ease of outfitting)
My Spooky Pirate Skeleton
Voluminous Hat
Voluminous Sneakers
Duct Tape Shirt
I will continue to take pictures and update as more and more of the outfit comes together. I actually have already made the foil, but haven't taken a picture yet, and I have purchased a bottle opener. I'll make the pants tonight and take pictures and then I shall be done!

Update: I have completed my pants! Look!

I have now successfully completed all of my items - I'll update to let everyone know how the contest went! Wish me luck!

Update: Costume contest was a ton of fun, even if it was kinda slap-dash. I didn't win, but I did get quite a bit of yells for the popular vote, which made me feel good. The person who did win had an awesome costume (a speed ascender) on top of another awesome costume (a stick figure catsuit) so I don't feel bad about losing - I would have voted for her too! Still, everything came out well and looked the way I wanted it to except for the duct tape shirt, which, after the duct tape was applied to it wouldn't fit properly. So, a Learning Experience.
